Tape-in, sew-in, bonded, hand-tied, micro-link — the innovation behind hair extensions have come a long way in recent years.

HAIR EXTENSIONS AND HAIR LOSS REPLACEMENT OPTIONS

Certified specialist in the following methods:

  • Hand tied sewn, Tape-in, Top of the head hair pieces.
  • Consultation Required.

Whether you’ve tried extensions before or are new to the service, the terms can be a bit dizzying. With so many different types of hair extensions it can be a challenge to understand which is best of your hair type and needs. At D’Ametri’s Salon we make this easy for you. Common goals with hair extensions are length and volume, although others need both. Understand which method is best for your hair type.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT HAIR EXTENSIONS

Determining the best type of extension method for your hair will come down to a few essential factors.

  • Hair type
  • Hair density
  • Upkeep
  • Desired result — length, volume, or both.
  • Budget
  • Once the key factors are determined, you can begin to look at the various options of hair extensions with your stylist.

D’Ametri’s certified team will provide a comprehensive consultation to ensure you are set up to win with the correct hair and technique for your hair, lifestyle, and beauty budget.

NATURAL HUMAN HAIR EXTENSIONS

Natural human hair extensions are collected from a donor and if they are considered “Remy” then the cuticle layer of the hair is also intact and all hairs run in the same direction. This is important because if hairs are placed upside down in the bond or weft this can lead to tangles.

TAPE-IN HAIR EXTENSIONS

Tape-in hair extensions are pre-taped wefts, usually in a single section, that are applied to a fine section of your hair. They need to be applied very close to the root and therefore require a stylist to apply them. These type of extensions are able to be removed in the salon and then re-glued or re-taped with the help of a professional. They usually last about 9 months. maintenance is 4-8 weeks depending on your home care routine and lifestyle habits.

SEW-IN HAIR EXTENSIONS

Sew-in extensions also known as a weave, are long wefts of hair that are sewn into your hair. This is done by placing a low tension beaded row or braid on scalp and then using a weaving method to sew the weft into your hair. This option is better for thicker or highly textured hair as it places too much tension on fine or thin hair types.

They usually last 9 months.

You can wear this type of extension for about 6-10 weeks.

FUSION/BONDED HAIR EXTENSIONS

Fusion hair extensions have become a very popular extension method recently. They use smaller single strand wefts that are bonded by keratin or glue. Using a meticulous application method, small sections of the hair are sectioned and with heat, the extension is then bonded to your hair. This option creates a very natural-looking appearance. This option is best applied by a trained professional and can last up to 3-5 months with proper maintenance. Once taken out, the hair is then discarded.

MICRO-LINK HAIR EXTENSIONS

Micro-link or micro-bead hair extensions are similar in size to fusion/bonded hair extensions but are attached using a small metal bead that is cramped on individual sections of the hair instead of bonded. This is a less permanent than fusion/bonded and the hair can usually be reused. They usually last 6-9 months This option lasts about 2-3 months, at this time they would need to be repositioned to keep up with the rate of hair growth.

FACE SHAPE AND EXTENSIONS

Professional Recommendations on Face Shapes with Hair Extensions for Confidence by D’Ametri’s Aveda

At D’Ametri’s Aveda, we understand that not everyone has the volume or length they envision for their perfect hairstyle. Hair extensions are a versatile solution that can enhance your look, creating the fullness and length you need to feel completely confident. Whether you’re looking for extra volume, longer locks, or intricate braids, hair extensions can help bring your hair dreams to life, especially when matched to your unique face shape.

Here are our professional recommendations on how to choose the right hairstyle, including the use of hair extensions, tailored to your face shape.

HAIRSTYLES WITH HAIR EXTENSIONS BASED ON FACE SHAPE

An oval face is considered the most balanced, with no prominent sharp angles. This shape works well with almost any hairstyle, but extensions can elevate the volume or length to match your vision.

Recommended Styles with Extensions:

  • Long, Cascading Waves: Hair extensions can add extra length for romantic, flowing waves that complement the natural symmetry of an oval face.
  • Voluminous Low Bun: Extensions add volume to buns, making them fuller and more dramatic without compromising the face’s natural harmony.
  • Half-Up Styles with Braids: Add extensions to create fuller braids, giving you an elegant yet relaxed look.

Round faces are soft and full, typically with wide cheeks. The goal is to elongate the face and create more dimension. Extensions can help achieve styles that slim and lengthen the overall appearance.

Recommended Styles with Extensions:

  • Long, Layered Styles: Extensions can provide the length needed to create layers that frame the face, making it appear longer and more defined.
  • High Updos with Volume: Adding extensions to create height at the crown can lengthen the appearance of a round face, giving you an elegant and elongated look.
  • Side-Swept Waves: Extensions help create a dramatic side-swept style with full, voluminous waves that elongate the face and bring a touch of Hollywood glamour.

A square face has a strong jawline and wide forehead. Extensions can add softness and balance, helping to round out the angles and create a more fluid silhouette.

Recommended Styles with Extensions:

  • Loose, Flowing Curls: Extensions give square faces the volume needed for soft curls, which can soften the jawline and forehead.
  • Textured, Messy Buns: Add extensions for more volume and texture to a loose, messy bun. The extra hair will give you a fuller, more effortless look that softens facial angles.
  • Boho Braids: Fuller, more voluminous braids created with extensions will add texture and movement, balancing the sharper lines of a square face.

A heart-shaped face is widest at the forehead and narrows toward the chin. Extensions can help add volume to the lower half of the hairstyle, balancing the wider forehead and creating symmetry.

Recommended Styles with Extensions:

  • Chin-Length Waves or Curls: Extensions can be used to add fullness around the chin, helping balance the face shape by reducing emphasis on a wide forehead.
  • Side-Swept Braids: Extensions give you the volume to create thicker, longer braids that start high on the side and cascade down, evening out the proportions of a heart-shaped face.
  • Voluminous Low Ponytail: Extensions are perfect for creating a fuller ponytail with a bit of volume around the lower half of the face, providing balance and enhancing the overall silhouette.

Long faces are characterized by greater length than width. Hair extensions can add volume to create width and break up the length of the face.

Recommended Styles with Extensions:

  • Wide, Soft Waves: Adding extensions for fuller, voluminous waves can help shorten the appearance of a long face and give it a more balanced shape.
  • Textured, Loose Braids: Extensions can provide enough length and volume for a wide, boho-inspired braid that adds width and dimension to a long face.
  • Half-Up Bouffant Styles: Extensions can add both height at the crown and volume on the sides, giving your face a more balanced, proportionate look while maintaining elegance.
